What I Wish I Knew About Postpartum Recovery: Nourishment, Minerals & Meals That Heal
Let’s skip the fluff and talk postpartum.
Not the dreamy, sleepy newborn snuggles kind—but the cracked nipples, night sweats, and bone-deep exhaustion kind.
The kind where you’ve had 90 minutes of sleep (if that), someone’s already calling you “Mama,” and waffles are non-negotiable by 7am.
My First Postpartum Experience
When I look back on my first postpartum season, it wasn’t at all what I imagined.
Yes, I was so in love. But I was also more tired than I’d ever been—and emotionally, it was a total mind game.
I kept waiting for the fog to lift. But it didn’t. In fact, it got heavier with time.
I felt emotionally fragile, disconnected from my body, and stuck in this weird tug-of-war between love and frustration.
What No One Told Me About Postpartum Healing
What I didn’t know then—but do now—is just how much nutrition and mineral balance impact postpartum recovery.
It might sound simple, but learning about minerals, nourishment, and cellular energy changed everything for me.
And I’m not exaggerating when I say:
I think I could’ve solved half my baby blues… with better salt.
Okay, not just salt. But truly—replenishing minerals and staying deeply nourished can ease so many of the emotional and physical challenges of postpartum life.
My Go-To Nourishing Resources for Postpartum
If you're preparing for birth or currently in that sacred healing window, here are a few of my favorite nutrient-dense, mineral-rich resources and recipes I’m leaning on this time around:
🥘 Batch & Fixin’s Cookbooks by Fallon Lee — “Batch” is especially great for freezer prep.
🥣 Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon — A staple for traditional food wisdom.
🍲 Postpartum Kitchen Cookbook + Mini Course by Annika — A beautiful guide to real food postpartum care.
Want a Done-for-You Option?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: postpartum nourishment is everything.
But if cooking or meal prep feels overwhelming (been there)—I’ve got something for you.
Restorative Roots, created by my dear friend Holly Stein (formerly of Eat Mama Meals), is an organic postpartum meal delivery service that brings traditional, healing freezer meals right to your door.
I cannot wait to take advantage of this for my own recovery—because I know every ingredient is intentional, mineral-rich, and crafted with new mamas in mind.

You were never meant to recover alone. You were meant to be nourished, supported, and slowly restored—body, mind, and spirit.
Whether you’re in the trenches or preparing for your next chapter, I hope this post gives you permission to treat your healing like the holy work that it is.
